DW Akademie in Kenya

Kenya is one of DW Akademie's priority countries. At the core of our in-country projects is the strengthening of an independent and diverse media sector.

One Fine Day Film Workshop

One Fine Day Workshop - Supporting Kenyan filmmakers

African Stories: With a focus on the professional production of TV reports, these workshops are open to journalists, technicians and video editors from 30 African countries, including Kenya. Other workshops train participants to become trainers themselves. African Stories has been running since 2011 and is one of DW Akademie's most comprehensive projects, both in scope and duration.

One Fine Day Film Workshops: These DW Akademie workshops focus on training and professionalizing Kenyan filmmakers. The best teams from the workshop series then join up to produce a feature film, with support from the DW Akademie's partners, One Fine Day Films and Ginger Ink. Films to date include "Nairobi Half Life" (2012) and "Something Necessary" (2013), and both have toured Germany and Kenya. In April 2014 DW Akademie also organized a workshop on writing film reviews, together with One Fine Day Films and the Goethe Insitut in Nairobi.

Mediendialog Nairobi 2013

Exchange for German and Kenyan journalists

Viewpoints: A DW Akademie project held in Nairobi in December 2013 brought together six Kenyan and six Kenyan journalists to discuss their perceptions of each other. The journalists produced a number of reports in teams of two, each made up of one German and one Kenyan participant.

Regional workshops for print journalists: DW Akademie now also offers training opportunities for print journalists. Participants from a number of African countries attended two workshops held in Kenya in 2013; the workshop on conflict-sensitive reporting focused on the extraction of natural resources.
