Mette Margrethe Elf is the director of the environmental department of the city of Copenhagen. The department is a division of the city's Technical and Environmental Administration. Her department is responsible for the CPH 2025 Climate Plan, which aims to achieve carbon neutrality in Copenhagen by 2025, making it the first carbon-neutral capital in the world.
Mette Margrethe Elf holds an M.A. in political science from the University of Copenhagen (2005) and additional M.A. from Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. She has practical experience in public relations, strategic urban planning and political strategy and communications. Prior to her current role, she was senior advisor to the mayor of Copenhagen. Her previous experience also includes work at the Danish Ministry of Finance, the Danish Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, the Danish Broadcasting Corporation (DR), the Danish Parliament and pharmaceuticals company Novo Nordisk A/S.
