Zugspitze – Atop Germany’s Highest Peak

January 27, 2014

At 2962 meters, the Zugspitze is Germany's highest peak. If you travel up it via cable car, you'll enjoy a spectacular panorama. And the skiing is good here as well, on pistes that are guaranteed to have snow.

You can ski on nine easy to moderately difficult downhill pistes on the Zugspitzplatt, a plateau to the south of the summit. The view of the Wetterstein Mountains, which surround the Zugspitze glacier, is impressive. Nowadays about half a million visitors come to the mountain every year. In the winter season, there's also a very special place to spend the night: an igloo village, built using oversized balloons and snow.
