The rest of the world was jubilant. But Germans had mixed feelings. Had they been defeated - or liberated? Did the summer of ’45 mark the end or a beginning? Our documentary features first-hand accounts from people who remember May 8 1945 in different ways; the streams of desperate refugees; the struggle to survive; the Lucky Strikes handed out by US troops. The shock of learning what happened in the concentration camps. Many of these eyewitnesses have never before talked about their experiences of this chapter in German history.
