DW Akademie works around the world with a number of partners including ministries, non-governmental organizations, media organizations, professional associations and universities.

Our main client is Germany's Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and for decades we have worked closely together. In 2013, and in close cooperation with the BMZ, we readjusted our strategy and with defined aims now concentrate on 25 countries. These projects are long-term and support the ongoing development of free and independent media.

Projects, for example, focus on developing journalism training programs according to international standards or on creating legal frameworks for individual media sectors. They concentrate on establishing public media structures, developing sustainable financial models for media organizations, or on advancing the skills people need for working with different types of media so they can participate in public dialogues.

We also develop and conduct projects for Germany's Federal Foreign Ministry (AA), the European Union (EU), the United Nations (UN) and other clients worldwide - projects that contribute to media development and the professionalization of journalists.

Our regional teams work closely with local partners such as media organizations, political decision-makers, civil society organizations, professional associations, community media and educational institutes.

Because developing projects together ensures they reflect local and regional needs.
