Kick off! Where Were You When....?

Where were you when Andi Brehme sunk the decisive penalty to win West Germany the 1990 World Cup? Or when Italy hoisted the trophy on 4 July 2006? Some World Cup moments accompany us a lifetime. Memories, good and bad, influence the lives of lots of people. This Kick off! special looks at some of the personal stories behind football's premier tournament.

German philosopher Klaus Theweleit, for example, tells us about Germany's first World Cup win in 1954. Englishman Robert Harman tells us about buying his first ever vinyl LP, with the England team's anthem, during the 1970 World Cup. Then Germany's Gerd Müller dashed England's hopes. Argentinian Hernan Marchese recalls the 1986 World Cup in Mexico, when Diego Maradonna's Hand of God was swiflty follwed by the best goal ever.
