What can I do about a dry mouth?

Dr. Lekutat‘s Answer:
The feeling of a dry mouth can have many causes. Doctors even have a name for it – it’s called xerostomy. It’s a common sensation when you’re nervous. But if you suffer from a dry mouth over a longer period, it’s best to pay a visit to your doctor. In many cases, it’s due to side effects from medications, but hormonal imbalances or rheumatic diseases can also have an effect on salivary glands. Smoking and alcohol consumption can also lead to a dry mouth. So if you suffer from a dry mouth, the first thing to try is relaxation and avoiding harmful substances. And if the sensation of a dry mouth continues, see your doctor.
