Veh to coach Frankfurt

Armin Veh had been rumored to be rejoining the Eagles for a couple of days, and on Sunday, the news became official with the 54-year-old agreeing a two-year deal.

"Eintracht was and is a special assignment for me," the club quoted Veh saying. "I'll do everything I can to lead the team into a positive future."

Club management was - not surprisingly - equally gushing about Veh.

"The decisive factor in our choice of Veh was, in additional to his indisputable sporting qualities, the fact that he can play an integrative role in the club," said Frankfurt chairman Heribert Bruchhagen.

The appointment completes a faintly surreal circle. In Veh's first stint with the Eagles, which lasted three years, he led them to promotion to the first division in 2011-12 and took them back to international competition with a sixth place finish after the 2013-14 season.

But in March 2014, he surprisingly declined to renew his deal, preferring a move to Stuttgart, the club with which he won the Bundesliga in 2007. That renewed engagement proved a disaster, and Veh voluntarily threw in the towel on November 24, 2014 after round 12 of the season. He was succeeded by his own predecessor.

Now at Frankfurt, he takes over from the man who succeeded him, Thomas Schaaf. Schaaf abruptly quit the Eagles this May, citing insufficient support from club management.
