Just over half of Twitter's 500 million users are active users of the social network. And the company, which hasn't lived up to market expectations following its IPO last year, is determined to change that. On Wednesday (13.11.2014), Twitter held its first Analyst Day during which features that make the social network easier to use were announced. Here's a list of some of the changes.

1. Location-based interaction

Twitterers have been able to use their locations to flag it to other users or search for information, but in the future, they will be able to join discussions based on where they are.

2. 'While you were away'

At the top of the home feed, Twitter will display the most popular and "relevant" tweets to the user so that he doesn't miss anything important.

3. More customization

A new feature will allow Twitterers to find topics they care about using the "Interest Picker," meaning that users won't need to seach for people who tweet about their areas of interest.

4. Messaging

Users will be able to share a tweet with another person privately, meaning that they have more options to communicate with each other. Until now, direct messaging was the only feature that allowed private communication on Twitter.

5. In-app video capture

Twitter will allow users to capture and share videos from the application itself. They have been able to record videos using Vine or upload them from their phone's album. But video capture features in Twitter itself will make it easier to share video.

Twitter has also announced other changes, which affects its overall strategy, like other apps that Twitterers could use within the service. Twitter's new features will be rolled out over the coming months.
