Twitch.tv - The YouTube for gamers

Video games are now a mainstream industry, with almost a fifth of the global population playing on one device or another. Among the most successful new businesses is videogame streaming service Twitch.tv, which allows users to watch others at play.

In Germany alone the gaming industry had a turnover of 2.65 billion euros in 2013. Most gaming takes place online. A very popular venue is Twitch.tv, which serves as a kind of live TV for gamers. The US streaming service sees some 6 million videos uploaded per month. The website is interactive and includes a live-chat option. P2P strategy games such as Defense of the Ancients and League of Legends are especially popular.
