Toyota in one more recall

The world's largest carmaker has said it's recalling almost two million vehicles worldwide over defects in the affected models' braking system. Toyota said the move was a precautionary measure to avoid accidents.

Toyota said Wednesday it needed to recall a total of 1.75 million cars globally due to brake problems and other problems that posed a fire risk.

The company announced that among the issues was an improperly shaped part in the braking system in several models including its luxury Lexus sedan.

That part could change the feel of the brake pedal over time, the carmaker explained, with more than 800,000 vehicles affected mainly in Japan and China.

"The brake does not become ineffective, but brake performance could begin to gradually degrade," Toyota said in a statement.

A separate issue involving the fuel pipe of Lexus and Crown Majesta cars could increase the risk of a fire "in the presence of an ignition source," the company added.

Toyota emphasized it was not aware of any crashes, injuries or fatalities inked to the problems.

Wednesday's announcement came just four months after the firm recalled 2.27 million vehicles over a defect that could see airbags fail to deploy in a crash. Toyota has called back close to 11 million cars since the start of the year, dealing a hefty blow to its erstwhile reputation for quality and safety.
