It appears market competition and outsourcing are driving a race to the bottom when it comes to high-tech device production. While more humane phones, e.g. the Fairphone, are already being produced, experts say the industry needs to change from the ground up. This could start with leading companies revamping their supply chains - and stronger national laws in the major tech-consuming countries.
