Totem and Taboo in Madagascar

If you belong to the Antambahoaka people on the eastern coast of Madagascar, and you give birth to twins, you have a real problem. According to traditional beliefs, twins are cursed and bring bad luck to the community. Jan-Philippe Schlüter met with Antambahoaka mothers who have complied with the tradition - and others who have chosen to defy it. Anke Rasper presents his report.
