From old metal to trendy furniture: we visit a Berlin company that’s transforming trash.

BU= Petra Schultz has a store in Berlin’s trendy Kreuzberg neighbourhood where she sells furniture and accessories made of old tin containers. She also sells her creations online and in furniture stores – and they are especially popular in Switzerland. ---------------------------------------- Königin der Kanister Alte Olivenkanister einfach wegwerfen - das fand Petra Schultz schade, sehr schade soagr, denn die Kanister sind meistens auch schön anzusehen mit ihrem Design. Sie verhilft dem Blech zu einer neuen Karriere, bevor es zu Müll wird. Seit 2007 macht die Berlinerin daraus Möbel und Accessoirs - kleine Hocker, Schlüsselbretter, Magnettafeln oder auch Sideboards. Hergestellt werden die besonderen Möbel in einer Behindertenwerkstatt, denn soziales Engagement ist ihr wichtig. Mit ihren Aufträgen verhilft sie geistig und körperlich behinderten Menschen zu Arbeit. Ihre Kunden wissen ihr Konzept zu schätzen. In ganz Europa verkauft sie ihre Möbel aus alten Blechkanistern.

Petra Schultz thought it was a waste to discard empty olive oil tins – especially because they are sturdy, useful and colorful. So she decided to save the tins from the trash bin and give them a new life. In 2007, she started transforming them into furniture and accessories – from stools to key hooks and magnet boards. And what’s more, the pieces are created in a unique workshop for people with mental or physical disabilities. Petra Schultz’s business idea has taken off, and now she sells her tin treasures across Europe.
