In the Interview: German Football Association President Wolfgang Niersbach
Even the president of Germany's football association was impressed by Germany's start to the 2014 World Cup. Wolfgang Niersbach believes that Joachim Löw's side are capable of winning the tournament.
European football officials have urged FIFA President Sepp Blatter to step down, hours ahead of the World Cup in Brazil. Corruption allegations, most recently over Qatar's nomination as 2022 hosts, are hounding FIFA.
UEFA president Michel Platini has said he will not challenge FIFA president Sepp Blatter for the football world body's top position. However, Platini did call on Blatter to step down when his term ends in 2015.
The German Football Federation (DFB) has approved Wolfgang Niersbach as its president for another three years. The decision comes only a day after Niersbach announced Germany’s bid to host the Euro 2024 championship.
