The Crisis in Mali: West Africa calls for More Support
A report released this week by Amnesty International says soldiers in Ivory Coast and allied militias are killing and torturing supporters of ousted president Laurent Gbagbo.
Former Mali Prime Minister Ibrahim Boubacar Keita has stolen a substantial march in the western African nation’s presidential election. With around a third of the votes counted by Tuesday, Keita holds a "wide lead."
West African defense chiefs have begun talks in Abidjan, the capital of the Ivory Coast, to discuss "boosting" an African force in Mali. Meanwhile, French troops have secured a key area near the northern city Gao.
