The Aryans – Part 1-2

August 5, 2014

Every 30 minutes sees a right-wing crime committed in Germany. The perpetrators usually refer to themselves as “Aryans.” But who are the “Aryans” really? And where did they come from? An investigation.

They call themselves Aryan League, White Aryan Resistance or Aryan Nations. What they all have in common is there use of pseudo-scientific racial theory to divide the world into Aryans and non-Aryans. The alleged right-wing terrorist Beate Zschäpe was found to have an article explaining the concept of the "Aryan Race". And in the United States, so-called “Aryan Hate Groups” are alleged to have perpetrated countless murders.
In this two-part documentary, the Afro-German filmmaker Mo Asumang sets out to find the origins of the Aryan concept and its misuse by racists in Germany and the USA.

She herself even received a death threat from the “White Aryan Rebels,” a racist organization that supported Zschäpe’s NSU terrorist cell. The director seeks out people behind this right-wing ideology and confronts them with seemingly innocent questions. She attends demonstrations and propaganda events by self-proclaimed Aryans in Gera, Wismar and Potsdam.

In the U.S., she met with the Ku Klux Klan and an infamous racist of world renown: Tom Metzger, founder of the "White Aryan Resistance,” whose aim is to use so-called "lone wolf” tactics to ignite an "Aryan revolution.”Her research eventually led her to Iran, where she found ancient inscriptions that supported the country as the cradle of the Aryan identity and gave it a completely different meaning.
