Student gunman dead after school shooting near Seattle
October 24, 2014Police in the US state of Washington say a gunman is dead after an attack at the Marysville-Pilchuck High School, 30 miles (48 kilometers) north of the city of Seattle.
Marysville Police Commander Robb Lamoreux confirmed the shooter was a student.
The gunman opened fire at the school, injuring as many as six people, at least three of whom were brought to a local hospital in critical condition. The Seattle Times, citing law-enforcement officials, reported the shooter "died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound."
The shooting occurred in the school cafeteria, according to reports.
"I was eating...I hear four gunshots and it was behind me. I saw a gun pointed at the table...then I ran out of the exit," one student named 'Alex' told KIRO TV news.
Live video showed students being evacuated from the school. A large number of police vehicles are at the scene and FBI has also said its agents are on their way.
The region's last school shooting happened on June 5 at Seattle Pacific University, where a gunman killed one student and wounded two others.
