Tornadoes have caused mayhem in the United States, with forecasters saying the weather is unusual for January. The town of Adairsville in Georgia took the brunt of the storm, which has killed at least two people.
A powerful typhoon has struck the Philippines, bringing down trees and electricity pylons and damaging homes. Several people were killed although the capital Manila was spared the worst of the winds.
Typhoon Rammasun has hit southern China with torrential rain and wind causing several deaths. The storm hit the area after claiming scores of lives in the Philippines.
Southern Japan is bracing for Typhoon Neoguri, one of its worst storms in years. Schools, aviation and shipping on Okinawa have ground to a halt, as waves up to 14 meters have been forecast.
Tropical storm Arthur, which hit southeastern Canada early Saturday morning, left 250,000 homes and businesses without power. The storm is now heading to Newfoundland, but with substantially less destructive potential.
