Neureuther told ZDF televsion "Naturally you want to win when you're leading after the first run," he said. "but it is still a great day for me."

The 30-year-old Neureuther was going for his tenth World Cup win and said he was pleased with his first run: "If I stand at the start and everything is in order, then there are no excuses," Neureuther told German television." This was a very good run without major mistakes. I knew I could be quick, but I did not think I would go so fast."

Neureuther is the son of double Olympic champion Rosi Mittermaier and six-time slalom World Cup winner Christian Neureuther.

In February, Neureuther was involved in a car accident on his way to the aiport to take part in the Sochi Olympic Games. He hit the crash barrier on a slippery, snowy road in Germany. Treated for whiplash injuries, he missed his plane from Munich after the crash. He did not take part in the Games.
