Schempp's second straight win

January 22, 2015

After a photo finish decided Simon Schempp's last biathlon race win, his 14-second margin of victory in Italy gave him plenty of room to breathe as the German recorded his second straight win.

Germany's Simon Schempp took first place in the 10-kilometer sprint race on Thursday in Anterselva, Italy, after hitting all ten targets on the shooting range. Russia's Evgeniy Garanichev, who was also perfect on the range, finished 14 seconds adrift in second.

The win comes four days after Schempp took first in a photo-finish at the mass-start event in Ruhpolding, Germany.

"It's just amazing, simply a dream," said a smiling Schempp after the race.

The win, Schempp's fourth podium in as many races, puts him third in the World Cup rankings. He trails Russia's Anton Shipulin by 18 points and World Cup leader Martin Fourcade of France by 43 points.

The next major race in the biathlon series is the European Championship, set to take place in Estonia starting on January 27.
