Green energy in Lebanon

Power outages are common in Lebanon, leaving people across the country dependent on diesel generators. But this is an expensive energy source and it's bad for the environment. Wind turbines and photovoltaic systems are promising alternatives.

A project initiated by the UN links decentralized renewable energy sources to Lebanon's national power grid. A net-metering system keeps track of how much green energy each small provider feeds into the network. That earns the provider credits which they can use to purchase energy from the grid at a later date.
