"Songs aren’t created, they’re just waiting somewhere,” says Nena, one of Germany’s most successful pop singers. Now she’s been joined by fifteen new songs - on the album "Du bist gut". PopXport had a listen. We also introduce newcomer trio Sizarr. The indie rockers from southwestern Germany have been praised to the skies by the music media. The clips are by Cro, Oceana and French Affair.
Nena once stormed the charts with her mega-hit "99 Red Balloons" and has sold twenty-five million records so far. Now she’s released her seventeenth album. Du bist gut (or "you're good") has already climbed to second place in the German charts. In our PopXport portrait, Nena tells us why the album is a plea for self-love, and why she recorded the songs in Iceland.
The three musicians from Sizarr just finished school, but they are already rising stars on the German music scene. The group's unusual mix of electronic, indie and world music sounds have made them an attraction on the festival circuit. Now the trio from western Germany have released their long-awaited debut album "Psycho Boy Happy" and embarked on their first tour. PopXport met up with them.
In his music, Cro, the rapper with the panda mask, mainly deals with the sunny side of life. That's not surprising, as his success story seems never-ending. Just after the Stuttgart singer's debut album went platinum, he’s got another single in the German top 10. In the clip to "Einmal um die Welt,” Cro has a child stand in for him.
Oceana has become a big star in eastern Europe. That's why the German artist was asked to perform the official theme song at the Euro 2012 soccer championship in Poland and Ukraine. On her latest single, "Say Sorry," the soul-pop singer passes harsh judgment on a lover.
In good old PopXport tradition we finish with a German song that became an international hit. This one from 2000 was the product of pop-dance formation French Affair, made up of German producers Thorsten and Carsten Dreyer with the French singer Barbara Alcindor. Their debut single stormed the charts from Canada to Britain and all the way to New Zealand.
In each edition of PopXport we play a video clip where your challenge is to identify a detail.
