Entertainer Elton John and his partner David Furnish were married on Sunday in the southeastern English town of Windsor, nine years after the couple entered a civil partnership.

The 67-year-old singer posted live updates of his wedding on Instagram, showing him and his partner getting ready to sign the official papers.

"That's the legal bit done. Now on to the ceremony," said the caption, referring to the star-studded ceremony, which was to take place at the couple's home in Windsor, west of London.

Around 50 guests were expected to be present, including David and Victoria Beckham, Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne and Elizabeth Hurley, who was one of the many guests to tweet her congratulations to the couple with #Sharethelove, which was trending on Twitter.

John had earlier tweeted about his wedding plans, saying he would like to share special moments from his wedding .

The singer and his partner entered into a civil partnership in 2005, celebrating the occasion with around 650 guests. John is also known as an advocate for human rights and his campaign against AIDS.

Same-sex marriage was made legal in England and Wales late in March this year, while civil partnerships between people of the same sex were legalized ten years previously.
