Police in Honduras confirmed on Wednesday that the bodies of two women had been found during a search for missing beauty queen Maria Jose Alvarado and her sister, Sofia Trinidad.

Alvarado, 19, and Sofia, 23, disappeared on November 13 after attending a birthday party in the northern city of Santa Barbara. The incident occurred just days before the beauty queen had planned to fly to the Miss World contest in London.

Police chief Leando Osorio, said authorities were "100 percent sure that it's them," according to the news agency AFP.

However, the Associated Press news agency quoted National Police director General Ramon Sabillon as saying that, while the bodies had been discovered buried near the location where the two women were last seen, forensics must first confirm their identities.

On Tuesday, Honduran police apprehended the sister's boyfriend, Plutarco Antonio Ruiz, and a second man, Aris Maldonado, for questioning regarding the women's disappearance.
