Picking poppies

Laura Postma, Czech RepublicOctober 30, 2014

It may come as a surprise, but the Czech Republic is the biggest producer of poppy seeds in the world. They're used mainly as an ingredient in deserts. The poppy that's produced in the Czech Republic only contains a small amount of opiates. Nonetheless, in the summer months a lot of poppy heads are stolen from farms by drug users, who use the raw opium to get high. Laura Postma reports.
