France has started a six-month experiment in paying people to cycle to work. Firms around the country will pay their combined 12,000 employees 25 euro cents per kilometer if they agree to ride to work instead of driving or taking public transport. If the experiment is a success, the government plans to launch a much larger test before extending the scheme to the entire working population.
