Asfa-Wossen Asserate is the great nephew of the last Ethiopian Emperor, Haile Selassie and a German citizen. Born in 1948, he was one of the first pupils to attend the newly-founded German school in Addis Ababa and from 1968 he studied law, economics and history in Tübingen, Cambridge and Frankfurt. Following the 1974 military coup in his native Ethiopia in which his father was shot and his family was arrested, Asfa-Wossen Asserate made Germany his home. In Frankfurt am Main he began working as a freelance management consultant and author. His latest book, published this year, asks and answers the 101 most important questions about Africa, and cements the 61 year-old’s position as a mediator between Europe and Africa.
