Obama - a Berliner for two days
Last time he was in Berlin, 200,000 people turned out to hear his campaign message. Barack Obama has returned to the German capital for the first time since becoming president, this time with Germany about to vote.
"Hello Berlin!"
Barack Obama is visiting Berlin for the first time since he became US President in 2008. The foreign speech was a key moment in his successful campaign to become president, he's now into his second and final term.
Meeting friends
Obama was welcomed on Wednesday by Germany's President Joachim Gauck, whose role is a more ceremonial one, at Gauck's Schloss Bellevue palace.
Signing the visitor's book
President Obama signed the visitor's book before retreaing for talks with President Gauck.
Meeting schoolchildren
Obama and Gauck went on to visit the John F. Kennedy school in Berlin, named after the US President who famously said almost 50 years ago that "Ich bin ein Berliner!" The kids had the day off in honor of the visitor.
Tight security
Several roads have been blocked off to allow Barack Obama's motorcade to go past, forcing even cyclists to make detours. Obama had joked in Northern Ireland ahead of the G8 summit that one of his daughters had noticed how "I cause a big fuss wherever I go."
At the Holocaust memorial
First Lady Michelle Obama and her daughters visited Berlin's Holocaust Memorial close to the Brandenburg Gate.
Old friends
President Barack Obama and German chancellor Angela Merkel are not said to be close - but their first meeting on Wednesday was a show of friendship.
