Fighting slavery in Niger

Even though slavery is illegal in Niger, the century-old practice continues. It’s an uphill battle: Some 800,000 people, both women and men, are estimated to be kept as slaves, exploited for domestic work and raped by their masters, or forced to labor on their owners’ fields. DW’s Naomi Conrad met one woman who managed to run away – after being enslaved for twenty years.
