Ross DunbarOctober 13, 2014

The Dutch were unable to turn around the early deficit, as they did just a few days ago against Kazakhstan. It was, however, a special day for one Norwegian teenager.

Iceland produced a shock win over the Netherlands with two goals coming from Swansea City's Gylfi Sigurdsson in the first-half. The summer's World Cup semi-finalists had gone behind in each of their last four matches.

But Guus Hiddink's team labored in Reykjavik, going behind after 10 minutes for Sigurdsson's opener from the penalty spot. The 25-year-old's second was from outside of the box, striking home three minutes before the break, as the Icelanders held on to record their first win against the Netherlands.

Elsewhere, Italy took three points with a 1-0 win in Malta, Wales beat Cyprus by two goals to one, Israel cruised past Andorra, and Norway continued their strong start with a 2-1 win over Bulgaria in Oslo.

In the latter match, Norway's Martin Odegaard - 15 years, 297 days old today - became the youngest player in a European Championships qualifier.

Bosnia and Herzegovina drew 1-1 with Belgium, having taken the lead through Manchester City's Edin Dzeko. Turkey could only manage the same score at Latvia, but Croatia thrashed Azerbaijan by a six-goal margin.

The earlier kick-off saw the Czech Republic manage a 4-2 win away to Kazakhstan.
