As qualification for the 2016 European Championships continues, The Netherlands came from behind to see-off Kazakhstan. Afellay, now on loan at Greek giants Olympiacos from Barcelona, inspired the Dutch victory after going 1-0 down in 17 minutes.

It was the 28-year-old who assisted for former Royal Blues team-mate Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, who scored his 36th international goal in the 62nd minute. Afellay proceeded to score the second on his own after the Dutch saw efforts from Arjen Robben and others hit the woodwork. Robin van Persie tied up the win with the third from the penalty spot in the closing minutes.

Meanwhile, Antonio Conte's Italy made hard work of their qualifier at home to Azerbaijan. The Azzurri took the lead through Giorgio Chiellini late in the first half. But - after turning the ball into his own net in the 76th minute - the Juventus defender turned out to be the hero with an 82nd minute goal to send the Italians ahead.

There was a comprehensive win for the Belgians against minnows Andorra. The 6-0 was the highest win under Marc Wilmots' tenure as coach. Wolfsburg's Kevin de Bruyne managed to get himself on the scoresheet twice for the Red Devils.

Elsewhere, Iceland managed to net a 3-0 win in Latvia, Norway won by the same scoreline in Malta, the Czech Republic sealed an impressive 2-1 win in Turkey, while Ivica Olic struck to hand Croatia all three points against Bulgaria. Israel held on to beat Cyprus in Nicosia and Wales were held by Bosnia.
