Mini-Jetlag - Why It's So Hard to Get out of Bed on Monday Morning

The next Monday-morning blues are already in the works by Friday evening when many people go to bed later than usual. Then they get up later on Saturday morning. During the week, the body starts releasing the stress hormone cortisol at three or four a.m. By dawn, levels begin to peak, and we wake up.

Shifting our sleeping patterns over the weekend moves this process one or two hours back. The result is a mini-jetlag.
