Milchzahn, literally "milk tooth," is a baby's first pearly white, which usually comes in accompanied by plenty of pain, tears and sleepless nights during the first few months of its life. To the dismay of many a nursing mother, babies don't immediately switch to steak and potatoes once their sharp white chompers have arrived. While the Milchzähne fall out a number of years later - once again accompanied by pain and tears - and are replaced with permanent teeth, milk remains an essential dietary component. Albeit from a different source, and not just for the body, but also the soul. As US author Robert Fulghum once wrote, "Think what a better world it would be if we all (…) had cookies and milk about three o'clock every afternoon and then lay down with our blankies for a nap." In that spirit, cheers and night-night! Author: Kate Bowen Jessie Wingard
