She enjoys having the opportunity to break the umbrella term ‘globalization’ down into individual experiences of the world we live in today. As globalization gathers pace, change is fast becoming the new status quo - a challenge Michaela is curious to explore together with the viewers of Global 3000.

Michaela began her career as a journalist with the BBC in London where she worked on the interview program HARDtalk and The World Today. Following a stint with the European affairs program Europe Direct, she decided in 2001 to return to university to study the diverse political forces driving the European Union. Her Master’s Degree in European Studies brought her to Berlin – a move that was a homecoming to her native Germany. It also saw her begin a new chapter as a human rights advocate.

During her studies Michaela looked at the situation of minorities in the European Union, focusing on Europe’s Roma and Sinti communities. At the same time she began work as an independent election observer. Building on her experiences she co-founded the non-governmental organization Democracy Reporting International (DRI) in 2006, a non-profit and independent network of election experts, and signed up to study International Human Rights Law at Oxford University.

In her free time Michaela savors the rich cultural life of Berlin and enjoys watching her daughter Lena discover the world her very own way.
