Media International: Digital Safety for Journalists

Surveillance, tracking and data theft are just some of the digital safety concerns of journalists working online. DW Akademie and the ARD studio in Berlin invite you to take part in a discussion on digital safety issues.

If there were any remaining convictions that digital communication is free of surveillance and infiltration the NSA scandal has confirmed that it isn't. Every journalist who researches online leaves digital footprints that can pose a threat to journalists as well as their sources.

Should journalists now be avoiding giants like Google and Facebook and make sure they encrypt all communication? How can those working under repressive regimes access data without compromising their own and others' safety? And what are some of the current considerations for safeguarding journalists’ work and developing new confidence in working online?

The following panelists will be part of the DW Akademie and ARD Berlin's "Media International" discussion round taking place on January 23 at the ARD Studio in Berlin:

Anne Roth, Tactical Technology Collective
