Top honors for McConaughey

Matthew McConaughey and Gwyneth Paltrow have won the top international acting prizes at the 49th annual Golden Camera awards in Berlin. World War II drama "Unsere Mütter, unsere Väter" was honored for best TV film.

"Unsere Mütter, unsere Väter" (Our Mothers, Our Fathers) won the award for Best Television Film at the ceremony on Saturday evening, broadcast live from Berlin's old Tempelhof Airport. The acclaimed miniseries drama by public broadcaster ZDF follows the different stories of a group of young adults as they go through the Second World War.

Matthew McConaughey was given the prize for best international male actor. The 44-year-old American recently picked up a Golden Globe and is nominated for an Academy Award for his role as a 1980s AIDS victim in "Dallas Buyers Club".

Top female international acting honors went to Gwyneth Paltrow, while fellow Hollywood star Diane Keaton was given a lifetime achievement award by actress Andie McDowell.

"I will take care of my Golden Camera," said Keaton, 68, after receiving the honor.

The awards are chosen by a panel of judges from the TV guide "Hörzu".

Swiss star honored

Bruno Ganz was given the domestic lifetime achievement award honor. The 72-year-old from Switzerland is best known to international audiences for playing Adolf Hitler in "Downfall", as well as roles in "The Reader", "The Baader Meinhof Complex" and "Unknown".

Nadja Uhl, who starred in "Operation Zucker" (Operation Sugar), was given the best German actress award, while Thomas Thieme won best German actor.

Twenty-one-year-old Emilia Schüle of "Freche Mädchen" (Naughty Girl) and "Tatort" (Crime Scene) was named best up-and-coming actress. Horst Lichter was honored as the top television chef, while fashion expert Guido Maria Kretschmer from the TV show "Shopping Queen" picked up the entertainment award.

Disco Funk group Kool & the Gang were given a lifetime achievement award in the music category. The band wowed the audience with a multi-song performance to close out the ceremony. Tim Bendzko won the domestic music award.

Readers of the TV guide "Hörzu" nominate actors, actresses, films and entertainers for the awards with the winners selected by a panel.
