Talking Germany - Manni Breuckmann, Legendary Football Reporter

For 36 years, Manni Breuckmann lent his trademark voice to broadcaster ARD's Bundesliga coverage. In that time, the commentated on more than 1000 matches. On "Talking Germany" we discuss Manni Breuckmann's life after football, the highlights of the World Cup in Brazil and the start of a new Bundesliga season.

Manni Breuckmann, who allowed nobody but his mother to call him Manfred, was born in 1951 in the town of Datteln in Germany's Ruhr region. He began studying law in Bochum and Marbug and worked as a public servant at the Federal Press Office before being hired by broadcaster WDR as a football reporter. Thanks to his unmistakable voice and his ironic view of the world of football, he quickly made a name for himself. He believes reporters should make a mark. He describes himself as a Schalke sympathizer, but without the fanaticism that many fans display. He has a grown-up daughter and lives with his journalist wife in Düsseldorf.
