Madrid is planning another bid to host the Summer Olympics, hoping the potential revenue will help the city through the financial crisis. Tokyo is also throwing its hat in the ring.
Despite strong competition out of California, Boston has successfully won the fight to be the US candidate city for the 2024 Summer Games. Not all Bostonians support the decision, however.
The United States Olympic Committee announced Tuesday it will bid to host the 2024 Olympic Games, but the candidate city won't be selected until early next year. Both Germany and Italy have also already announced bids.
The International Olympic Committee has unanimously passed 40 reforms proposed by president Thomas Bach. The steps will see the Olympics being staged in two countries, new sports added and an Olympics TV channel.
The International Olympic Committee would like to adopt a new Olympic agenda, which will secure the future of the Olympic Games. The events will be cheaper, according to the plans, and have less regulations.
