Long distances and wild adventures

April 16, 2013

Hilary originally comes from the Philippines but now she lives in the USA. Most of her family are scattered all over the world and when they do have the chance to meet, it is always a very special experience.

My name is Hilary and I am originally from Cebu in the Philippines but my mother and I immigrated to the USA when I was very young so we could live with my father. I found out about DW just a short while ago and I must say that I find DW to be both informative and captivating. I just wish I would have heard about it earlier!

I still have a half brother and a half sister in the Philippines. My sister is married and I am now the aunt of a wonderful little boy named Nikolai. Every evening my mother and I video-chat with my sister and my sweet little nephew.

He is only three months old but he is already getting so big! I haven’t met him yet but it is a goal of mine to go back to the Philippines and visit them again.

One thing I don’t like at all about my family is that we are spread all over the world. Some of us live in the Philippines, some in the USA, while others are in Japan, China and even in the Middle East. I am often envious of those families who are always near each other.

On the other hand I think that the distance between us is the reason why, when we get to see each other, it always turns into a really special experience where we have crazy adventures together. Like last December when we took a crazy road trip from San Francisco all the way down to Mexico.
