On the banks of the Danube

As summer reaches its end in the northern hemisphere, swimmers at the Danube River are enjoying the last of the sunshine. One part of the river in particular, the Gänsehäufel, is a magnet for bathers from all parts of Austrian society.

The Gänsehäufel island recreation and bathing spot on the Danube River has long been where people from all sectors of Viennese society seek respite when the weather turns hot in the Austrian capital.

The public lido was opened in 1907 and has space for up to 30,000 swimmers each day.
