German Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen are to take on Danish club FC Copenhagen in the playoff stage of this year's Europe's top club football competition, the Champions League.

According to the draw which took place today in Nyon in Switzerland, Leverkusen will play in Copenhagen on 19 August or 20 August, before the German team hosts the Danes in Leverkusen the week after.

The 2001-2002 Champions League runners-up seemed pleased with the draw. Club Sport Director Rudi Völler told German channel Sky Sports News HD, that he was pleased that Leverkusen didn't have to take on Spanish fourth-placed club Athletic Bilbao in the playoffs.

"I don't know that much about FC Copenhagen, to be honest," Voller said. "But I know that our team of coaches will head into the video analysis and prepare for this intensively, just like the other clubs at this stage of the competition."

"We certainly don't want to get knocked out at this stage, in two playoff games, after making sure that we got to fourth position in the Bundesliga last season," he added.

Amongst the other ten matches drawn in the Swiss town of Nyon on Friday, Turkish club Besiktas will meet Premier League team Arsenal. Meanwhile, highly-touted Spanish team Athletic Bilbao are due to take on Italian side Napoli.

Meanwhile, two time UEFA Cup winner Borussia Mönchengladbach will play Bosnian side FK Sarajevo in the playoffs of the Europa League. The first leg will take place on 21 August in Bosnia.
