The Gewandhaus concert hall, the annual book fair, and Auerbachs Keller: Leipzig has no shortage of cultural and culinary attractions. The city also played an important role in recent German history.

Leipzig is a hub of cultural and economic activity in the state of Saxony. The city is also famous for the key role it played in the peaceful revolution in East Germany in 1989. The Nikolaikirche, St. Nicholas Church, was the starting point of the Monday-night prayers that became the Monday Demonstrations, which culminated in the end of the communist regime, and the reunification of the country. Karin Schäuble takes visitors on a tour of key local sites connected to the fall of the regime.
