Jürgen Klinsmann has been nominated for the main prize at the 2015 German Football Ambassador initiative by a panel of experts.

The Germany-born coach has been a key part of the sport's growth in the US, while also being an integral part of social-corporate activities and contributing heavily to the positive global image of Germany.

The award is designed to recognise the achievements of German coaches abroad, and Klinsmann is the best example. Head of the US men's national team since 2011, Klinsmann took the country to the 2014 World Cup where they bravely exited in the knockout rounds against Belgium.

"I am glad that my commitment is honoured to this extent. So far I have never really seen myself as an ambassador. I appreciate the fact that my work got to the people of the countries where I was actively playing and coaching," said Klinsmann after receiving his nomination.

Also nominated are Michael Nees and Eckhard Krautzun. Nees is technical director of the Israeli Football Association, as well as head coach of the U19 team. Krautzun has been nominated for his work in Africa and Asia.

The winner of the award will be revealed in Berlin on June 2.

Deutsche Welle's Kick-Off show will be visiting Jurgen Klinsmann in Los Angeles to find out more his work and life in the US. The programme about our three nominees will be broadcasted on January 26.
