The Munich International Film Festival is, after the Berlinale, Germany’s most important festival and certainly among the most enjoyable. The festival line-up ranges from the best in new German cinema to classics from the American indie scene.
The gangster movie has gone in and out of fashion in Germany but there have been several genre classic to come out the country. The latest hard-boiled thriller is “Harms” starring Heiner Lauterbach as a ex-con looking to pull off one last job. Kino looks at the history of the gangster movie as a mirror on society and its values.
