"The Dark Valley," a visually stunning Alpine Western, is the favorite going into the 2014 German Film Awards, with nine nominations. In addition to the honor of winning, the awards bring cash for filmmakers, performers and producers. A total of three million euros in prize money will be handed out with the coveted Lolas. Cinema and computer games are becoming increasingly interlinked. Not only are there many film adaptations of successful games such as "Tomb Raider" and "Prince of Persia" games developers are using the skills cinema relies on, such as screenplay development, storylines, and special effects. Kino takes a look behind the scenes and asks whether films will soon be nothing but merchandising for games.
