During the 2014 World Cup final, DW's football show Kick off! watched on as people around the world experienced the game of the year: be it on the beaches of New Zealand, at a kiosk in Berlin, in a Moscow taxi or amongst tuna at the morning markets in Tokyo, we were there. We visited the people who football belongs to.

Over 700 million people in 194 countries are believed to have watched the final between Germany and Argentina. No other event brings so many people together in front of their television screens. The World Cup final can divide people into two camps, bring strangers together or ruin friendships. It can give the winning nation a boost, and can send the other country into depression.

In this special edition of Kick off!, we sent reporters around the world looking for very personal World Cup stories. In addition, fans from every continent sent in films of themselves, watching the game. A worthy film celebration for the biggest event in the world.
