The title and cast for the next James Bond movie was unveiled on Thursday at Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire, England, which has been the home to the British 007 franchise for over five decades.

The next installment, for which filming will begin in four days time, will be called "Spectre." The film will be shot in Mexico City, Rome and Tangier, as well as the Austrian ski slopes. Fans of Bond's vehicles will also be able to look forward to a new sleek Aston Martin DB10.

Mendes to direct again

Oscar winner Sam Mendes, who also directed the most recent 007 adventure, Skyfall, was announced last year as director of the next instalment after producers agreed to fit around Mendes' other commitments. Screenwriter John Logan is also set to return to the team.

Expectations are high following the success of Mendes' Skyfall which was the highest grossing film in the UK of all time.

British actor Daniel Craig, who has already starred in three of the franchise's films since taking up the role as the seventh Bond in 2006, will also reprise his role as the MI6 agent.

Spy chief "M" will be played by Ralph Fiennes, who replaces Oscar-winning actress Judi Dench.

German-Austrian actor Christoph Waltz, who this week received his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, will star as the villain, Oberhauser.

Monica Bellucci and French actress Léa Seydoux, who previuosly starred with Fiennes in "Grand Budapest Hotel," were also confirmed as the next "Bond Girls."

High hopes

The new film is expected to be released in October next year during a busy few weeks at the box office, when the final Hunger Games installment and eagerly awaited Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens are also due to be released.

Created in 1953 by English author Ian Fleming, the character James Bond featured in twelve novels and two short-story collections before he first appeared on the silver screen in 1962 in the premier film Dr. No, starring Sean Connery.

To date the series has grossed just over 5 billion euros ($6 billion) in the worldwide box office, sitting in third position behind Harry Potter and the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
