Israel hit targets in Gaza for the fourth day in a row, while Palestinian militants responded with more rockets aimed at Israel. In Cairo, diplomats from the region gathered in a bid to negotiate a truce.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has told Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas that he has to choose between peace with Israel or Hamas. It comes after Hamas and Fatah agreed to a unity government.
In a raid on a ship allegedly bound for the Gaza Strip, the Israeli navy has seized rockets it claims to be from Iran. Israel said the weapons were destined for Palestinian militants, adding the evidence was "clear cut."
The leaders of the Palestinian Hamas and Fatah factions are expected to meet in Gaza in an attempt to finalize reconciliation efforts and to pave the way for elections.
The Israeli government hit back at Gaza militants who fired more than 30 rockets into southern Israel without causing casualties. Visiting British premier David Cameron condemned the barrage.
