On the 25th anniversary of his death, DW-WORLD.DE spoke to Juliane Lorenz, Fassinder's former partner and film editor, about the work of German filmmaker Rainer Werner Fassbinder.

Rainer Werner Fassbinder was considered pioneer of New German Cinema, completing 44 films before his death at just 37, on June 10, 1982.

After his death, his mother, Liselotte Eder, created the Fassbinder Foundation to preserve his body of work. The Foundation has since been taken over by Juliane Lorenz, and work to preserve Fassbinders films, writing and plays continues.

Last week, around 25 of Fassbinder's former colleagues -- including actors, directors and producers -- demanded Lorenz resign and the Fassbinder oeuvre be donated to the Deutsche Kinemathek in Berlin.
